Went to Lille this weekend on Eurostar with a mate and we idly whiled away the waiting time with a spot of people watching.

The iPhone is perfect for shooting unobtrusive video in public places, and Goldfrapp’s “Train” provided an appropriately modern soundtrack. Well, I say that but actually bought their album Black Cherry in 2003, back when Child K was six.

Hmmm – feeling my age with a vengeance.

 

A Wake Up Call

The Bathroom My neighbour Jack’s knee gave out this morning in the bath. It’s been giving him trouble for a while now. But having been a busy and active man all his life, he’s simply carried on as normal with the help of a walking stick. This morning his wife Ellie called by our house and asked me to help her get Jack out of the tub as she couldn’t lift him on her own. They’d obviously managed to get him into swimming trunks before Ellie went for help, but when we arrived back at their bathroom he was weeping with shame and frustration. Which of us wouldn’t feel the same in Jack’s position? And having had to haul my own Dad on and off the lavatory in his final couple of years, it’s clear that sooner or later - if we’re lucky enough to live that long - all of us will be.

How nice to see young people enjoying themselves… Idly wondered if anyone outside the porn industry had ever posted romantic pictures pictures of men kissing each other online, and found to my amazement there are whole websites devoted to nothing else. Mathew Shepard and The Admiral Duncan notwithstanding, we’ve come a long long way. #feelingmyage
